This December, The Clean Europe Network held their first ever summit in a bid to bring together Europe’s leading organisations specialising in litter prevention.
The Clean Europe Network, who hosted the Stop Litter Now! Summit in Brussels, was created by Pack2Go Europe in 2013. Pack2Go Europe is a not-for-profit association of companies that manufacture packaging for the food and beverage sectors.
Tony Waters, who helped establish the network said:
“Together, with the Clean Europe Network, Pack2Go have done amazing work in just a year to tackle key challenges like developing a universal way to monitor litter or preparing a toolbox to help local authorities understand where and how litter is transported.”
This insight will help prevent the litter from entering places like rivers and canals and harming wildlife. The cost of cleaning towns and countryside is currently around €13bn per year, with that figure set to rise.
Pack2Go has recognised that people now have busier lifestyles, which is changing the way we eat and drink as well as dispose of rubbish. Pack2Go is made up of suppliers of raw materials and technology who collectively want to promote trust and awareness within the industry and collectively help to lower the amount of waste the industry produces.
Tony Waters continues: “[The] industry really needs to support this sort of pioneering work that will really make a difference,” and we here at Wessex Packaging agree.
