Whether you like it or not, the way a product is packaged will have an effect on whether you purchase it or not – so best to get it right!
With Christmas just around the corner, you will have noticed that there will have been some significant changes to the packaging of your favourite brands. This may be something as small as the addition of a red bow, or a complete re-design of the packaging for special occasions.
Stella Artois for example, has this month launched brand new packaging designed to target those buying for the festive season. The packaging is designed to look like a present containing Stella Artois. The change in colour and design will attract more attention and stand out from the crowd in a supermarket.
Another example would be Belvedere Vodka, who has recently released a special edition (product) RED bottle to help raise awareness for World Aids day on December 1st. The message on the bottle is that product Red saves lives and they are giving 50% of their overall profit from the bottles to the global fund.
The design of the packaging is vital to target the right audience and connotates the quality of the product contained within. It can also be used to help products stand out from the competition. Packaging also has important functional uses such as to protect the product whilst in transit, so needs to be well-designed.
