British polythene industries (BPI) have reported that polymer prices are decreasing. These high costs had been affecting a great deal on the feedstock costs, and this particularly impacted upon the retail sector. Polymer is the main ingredient for our polyethylene packaging.
This price decrease is positive news for the industry which desperately needs to invest more in equipment as well as training for new recruits in the future. The UK plastics industry is currently taking valuable advice from the Indian plastic industry which has a growth rate of 16% which is comparable to the UK’s 2.5%. The British plastics federation (BPF) will hold a workshop for Indian industry leaders to come to London and create strong relationships in order for British plastic companies to learn from their success.
Sadly there is little to be positive about as rises in other costs prevents a pick in margins. Dansico drive Du Point reported 13 % increase in energy, freight and material overheads.
