Packaging Welding and Gluing

In order to assemble cardboard & foam packs we use both hot melt glue and hot air welding. We use the latest technology hot glue guns. They use compressed air and as well high spec temperature controlled hot air guns for welding foam.

Welding

Polyethylene foam can be joined using a hot welding process. Pieces of foam such as Stratocell or Plastazote are cut to shape or die cut to a certain shape. Then for example to create an end-cap the die cut piece with the hole in is welded to a plain backing piece. Hot welding is carried out by holding the subject pieces of foam slightly apart but in alignment & then gently heating the surfaces to be joined with a hot air gun. As you push the pieces together & the heat cools, they become securely welded together.

Gluing

In the process of manufacturing cardboard & foam fittings, there are numerous occasion where foam needs to be adhered to cardboard or cardboard to cardboard. This is achieved by using pneumatic hot melt glue guns which use 43mm solid glue slugs. The pneumatic glue guns heat & melt the glue and when the trigger is pulled a bead of glue can be applied where required. This gluing method allows good penetration into foam & ensures excellent adhesion.
